SafePath handles all personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

1. Who We Are

SafePath Australia is a parent support and organisation platform designed to help parents navigate the child protection and reunification process. SafePath is developed and operated by Michelle Goodman, South Australia, Australia.

  • Platform contact: michellegoodman@safepathaus.com.au
  • SafePath handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. What Information We Collect

SafePath collects personal information that you provide or that is generated through your use of the platform, including:

  • Account details: your name and email address.
  • Uploaded case documents and files.
  • Task updates, compliance items, and progress records you enter.
  • Messages sent through the platform.
  • Login activity and platform usage data.
  • Information voluntarily provided through surveys, forms, reflections, or support requests.
  • Sensitive information you choose to upload or enter, including child protection, health, counselling, legal, or case-related information.

3. Why We Collect It

SafePath collects and uses your information only for the following purposes:

  • To help you organise your child protection case information.
  • To help you understand your requirements and track your progress.
  • To provide AI-assisted summaries and guidance based only on information you have uploaded or entered.
  • To enable authorised caseworkers or support workers to assist you if you have granted access.
  • To improve the SafePath platform over time.

4. Sensitive Information

SafePath collects sensitive information, including information about child protection involvement, health, substance use, legal proceedings, and family circumstances. This information is collected only with your consent and used only for the purposes described in this policy.

5. How We Handle Uploaded Documents

Documents you upload to SafePath are treated as sensitive information.

  • SafePath takes reasonable steps to protect uploaded documents and limit access to authorised users with appropriate permissions.
  • SafePath does not currently use uploaded documents to train AI models. If this changes in future, SafePath will update this policy and seek your specific, separate consent before any document is used for that purpose.
  • Documents are stored using secure third-party cloud infrastructure used to operate the SafePath platform.

6. AI and Automated Processing

SafePath uses AI to help you understand documents, summarise information, and identify tasks. The following rules apply:

  • AI processes only information you have uploaded or entered into the platform.
  • AI summaries are for support and organisation purposes only and may not always be accurate, complete, or up to date.
  • AI output is not legal, medical, or professional advice.
  • AI does not make decisions about your case, your children, or your involvement with child protection.

7. Who Can Access Your Information

Access to your information within SafePath is controlled by role-based permissions:

  • You can see your own information.
  • Caseworkers linked to your case can see the information relevant to case management.
  • Approved partner organisations (currently the Reily Foundation) can access de-identified summary information about parents supported through SafePath, limited to first name, program pathway, case status, and activity dates. This is used for program reporting, funding accountability, and impact measurement. Partner organisations do not have access to case notes, uploaded documents, court information, messages, or any other sensitive case content.
  • Service providers can see permitted appointment and engagement data only.
  • Carers can see permitted tools only.
  • SafePath administrators see only aggregated and de-identified analytics.
  • No one outside the platform can access your information without authorisation or as required by law.

8. Where Your Information Is Hosted and Overseas Disclosure

SafePath currently operates on Base44, a third-party application platform operated by Wix.com Ltd. This means some of your personal information is hosted and processed outside Australia.

  • Base44's core application servers and primary data storage are located in the United States.
  • Base44 engages sub-processors to help provide the platform, including data storage and hosting, server infrastructure, analytics, and email delivery, all currently based in the United States. Base44 itself is operated by Wix.com Ltd, based in Israel.
  • SafePath's AI features (document summaries, task extraction, and chat assistance) send only the specific information you upload or enter to AI service providers OpenAI and Anthropic, both based in the United States, solely to generate that output. These providers do not use your information to train their own models under SafePath's current configuration.
  • Because your information may be handled in the United States, Israel, and other countries where these providers operate, SafePath cannot guarantee that every overseas recipient is subject to privacy laws identical to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). SafePath relies on its hosting provider's contractual data protection terms, including standard contractual clauses and other lawful transfer mechanisms, to protect your information when it is handled overseas.
  • SafePath is planning to migrate parts of its infrastructure in future. This policy will be updated, and you will be notified within the platform, before any change that affects where or how your information is hosted or processed.

9. Disclosure to Third Parties

SafePath does not sell, share, or disclose your personal information to third parties except:

  • Where you have given explicit consent.
  • Where required or authorised by Australian law.
  • To trusted platform infrastructure and hosting providers who are bound by confidentiality obligations, as described in Section 8.

10. Data Security

SafePath takes reasonable steps to protect personal and sensitive information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

  • The platform uses encrypted connections and role-based access controls.
  • Information is stored using secure third-party cloud providers.
  • While SafePath works to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Data Retention and Deletion

SafePath retains personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the service and meet legal obligations. Current retention periods are:

  • AI chat conversation logs are automatically deleted after 90 days.
  • Case records are retained while your case is active or your account is in use. Closed case records are automatically anonymised, with personal identifiers removed, 7 years after closure.
  • Accounts inactive for 10 months receive a warning notification. Accounts inactive for 12 months or more are automatically deactivated, and associated personal identifiers may be anonymised.
  • You may request deletion of your account and personal information at any time by contacting SafePath at michellegoodman@safepathaus.com.au. Deletion requests are actioned promptly. Some information may be retained for a limited period afterwards where required by law, or as part of routine backup cycles, before being permanently removed.

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information SafePath holds about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or out-of-date information.
